LIVE Terror stand-off in Lucknow: Suspected ISIS militant refuses to surrender; opens fire at ATS

In a highly alarming incident in Uttar Pradesh’ capital city of Lucknow, a terror suspect has sneaked into the Thakurganj locality today. With the security forces, including the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) men surrounding the area, a tense stand-off is currently on. With Uttar Pradesh in the midst of an extremely volatile Assembly elections, the security forces are fearing the worst and have prepared themselves to tackle all situations that may arise from this encounter. According to sources at the spot, there is gunfire going on with both parties exchanging fire.

However, there are no reports of anyone getting injured. An explosion too has been reported at the spot. Police is questioning a number of suspects at the moment in an effort to find out the details about how and why the militant got into the city. The authorities are linking the militant to the explosion in the Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train train in the morning today, where a mobile phone exploded, causing injury to as many as 9 people. The stand-off has been continuing for the last 30 minutes.

5:09 PM: Daljit Chaudhary, ADG, UP: We have asked the suspect to surrender, if he doesn’t then our officers will start with tactical operations to nab him.

5:06PM: Daljit Chaudhary, ADG, UP:  We wan’t to catch the suspect and interrogate. We have well trained commandos who are at the location.

5:03 PM: Anti-terror operations still underway; meanwhile, UP ATS has cornered the suspect.

5:00PM: Meanwhile the city of Lucknow has been put under high alert.

4:59PM: India Today reports that more than one suspect may be holed up

4:56PM: High level security meet underway in Lucknow. Tear gas is being used to draw out the suspect.
