Second airport in Jewar may take wing as IGIA bursts with capacity

Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government is pushing for a new airport in Jewar as the government feels that Delhi will require a second airport in next eight years. The push for new airport comes as the GMR-led DIAL, operator of Delhi Airport, failed to reach consensus with airlines over shifting to Terminal 2 and undertake expansion of Terminal 1.

The Uttar Pradesh government has sent a proposal on Jewar airport to the aviation ministry to conduct a technical evaluation of the site.

“Within a few years, we will be using all of the capacity, it is necessary for us to build a new airport,” said Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha.  Read more
