SpiceJet, Jet Airways launch fare war

Budget carrier SpiceJet kicked off another fare war among domestic airlines by announcing its Great Festival Sale offer. The airline said its offering all inclusive one-way fares starting as low as Rs. 888 for the domestic and Rs. 3699 for the international sectors respectively.

“Applicable only on direct flights, under this offer, tickets on domestic routes are priced for popular routes such as Bengaluru – Kochi, Delhi – Dehradun, Chennai – Bengaluru at Rs. 888 while within the international sector, the sale offer has encompassed Chennai – Colombo routes at Rs.3699 among others,” the airline said.

The four day sale launched on Tuesday will be open till midnight, October 7, 2016, and the travel period covered under this sale is 8 November 2016 – 13 April 2017.

Within hours of the SpiceJet announcement, full service carrier Jet Airways retaliated by announcing base fares starting at Rs 396.

“The four-day special fare offer is effective from 4th – 7th October, 2016, and valid for travel from 8th November, 2016 onwards,” the airline said.

Jayaraj Shanmugam, Chief Commercial Officer, Jet Airways, said: “This exciting limited-period offer is our way of joining the festive celebrations, together with our guests, their families and loved ones.”
