Ensuring a convenient and seamless customer experience, SpiceJet-India’s budget airline, today announced the launch of a Unified Payment Interface (UPI) as a payment option on its website, allowing passengers to conveniently pay online using a mobile handset.
The integration will allow SpiceJet passengers to use their unique UPI IDs i.e. Virtual Payment Address to pay for all bookings made on the SpiceJet website. This payment solution, implemented by HSBC Bank on the SpiceJet network, is the latest addition to the already existing host of payment options currently available on Spicejet.com.

On entering the UPI ID, the passenger only need to authorize the payment to SpiceJet using their UPI PIN on the UPI app being used to complete the transaction.

SpiceJet acknowledges UPI as a leap forward in the digitization of the economy in the millennia and with the integration in place, the company resonates with the government’s drive towards a digital economy. With the launch, SpiceJet will become one of the key merchants to accept payments via UPI.

“By being an early adopter and integrating UPI for our website users, we are able to offer multiple payment options which greatly enriches our customer experience,” said Shilpa Bhatia Sr. VP Commercial, SpiceJet

“This has been a key project for SpiceJet considering their on-going focus towards digitisation and delivering a seamless customer experience. We look forward to strengthening our partnership with SpiceJet basis our UPI proposition which will allow SpiceJet customers to seamlessly pay for bookings done through their website. With UPI adoption witnessing significant growth in quarter ending March 2017, we believe that SpiceJet can use our offering to drive sales,” said Mr. Divyesh Dalal, Managing Director & Head Global Liquidity and Cash Management, HSBC India

Launched by National payment Corporation of India (NPCI) and regulated by Reserve Bank of India (RBI), UPI is a unique payment solution built to empower customers to initiate payment requests through their smartphone. UPI allows customer to pay directly from their bank account via the UPI ID to different merchants without the hassle of typing card details or account numbers,. UPI’s architecture is based upon Immediate payment service (IMPS) thereby making it a robust real time platform.
