M Venkaiah Naidu (68), who was elected as India 15th Vice-president on August 5, took oath today.
President Ram Nath Kovind administered him the oath of office and secrecy at Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan.
With Naidu becoming the vice-president, for the first time in the history, BJP leaders would occupy top four constitutional posts of the country. President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan all come from BJP.
Following the ceremonial reception Naidu will take over as the speaker of the Rajya Sabha in the Parliament.
Earlier in the day, he visited Rajghat to pay floral tribute to the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi.
1. Born on July 1, 1949 in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh, Venkaiah Naidu had interest in politics since childhood. He joined ABVP in 1973 as a student leader.
