Considering the rush of expatriates travelling to their native place on the occasion of Eid, the Ministry of Civil Aviation announced more number of flight services from Doha to Kerala from Saturday.
Air India will operate more services from June 24 till July 8 to Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. Many people had to cancel their travel via UAE to India following the sanctions imposed by the UAE on Qatar.
The latest move by the Ministry is meant to regulate the flow of passengers flocking the remaining flights from Doha. With school holidays starting on Thursday, the number of expats returning to their home state will range between 800 and 1,500 a day.
Of Qatar’s total population of 27 lakh, around six lakh are Indians including 3 lakh Malayalees. The representatives of the immigrant residents of Qatar had submitted a request in this regard to the Indian Ambassador in Qatar, who took up the matter with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
The decision to allot more flight services came after her talks with Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju.
