The government said on Friday that it had given its in-principle clearance and Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for the purchase of military equipment worth 1,83,778 crore starting in 2020–21.
AoN is the initial phase of purchasing any military hardware or equipment in accordance with Indian defence acquisition regulations.

Following the award of AoN, the relevant services and the ministry of defence begin the contracting and tendering procedure.

In the years 2020–21 to 2022–23 (until June 30), 59 AoNs totaling $1,83,778.34 crore and 91 contracts totaling $1,19,045.3 crore were approved, according to Minister of State for Defense Ajay Bhatt.

He was responding to a query about the subject.

“The Defence Acquisition Procedure is used while purchasing capital defence equipment (DAP). The DAP-2020 specifies the dates by which acquisition activities must be completed, “said Ajay Bhatt.

“Furthermore, the actions are routinely reviewed to assure proposal finalisation and contract closure promptly,” he continued.

In response to a different question, Ajay Bhatt stated that since 1992, the Indian Navy has started recruiting women to become officers. These women are working in a variety of areas and specialisations.

He stated, “Women are also eligible for recruitment as sailors in the Indian Navy, in accordance with Department of Military Affairs’ notice No. RP/3312/Women dated 23rd June 2022.
