In the past few weeks, India’s Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) has finished the user trials of the Pinaka rockets with a longer range at Balasore and Pokhran. Manufacturers of the system, Munitions India Ltd and Economic Explosives Ltd, met user requirements at the end of the trials, the DRDO said Monday. This is seen as a success for Make in India in the defence sector.
The DRDO’s Armanent Research and Development Establishment (ARDE) in Pune is one of its weapons-development labs. It works with Indian defence industry partners to make the long-range Pinaka system. Officials from DRDO and the Indian Army were there for the tests of the Pinaka system with a longer range.
In April, the Pokhran firing range successfully tested-fired the Pinaka MK-1 Enhanced Rocket System (EPRS) and the Pinaka Area Denial Munition Rocket Systems (ADM). “Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Army have successfully tested Pinaka Mk-I (Enhanced) Rocket System (EPRS) and Pinaka Area Denial Munition (ADM) rocket systems at Pokhran firing ranges,” the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
