Aviation Industry Reports Its Slowest Start This Year Since 2015


The growth seen in the Indian aviation space—the fastest growing market in the world—was the lowest since January 2015, even as 11 million passengers flew in domestic airlines in January. The passenger growth for the aviation industry was 20 percent last month, according to data compiled by BloombergQuint.

Interglobe Aviation Ltd., the parent company of IndiGo, saw a revival in its passenger growth after six subdued months. For the second half of 2017, IndiGo reported below industry growth due to delay in capacity addition.

However, the company continued to lose market share, albeit at a slower rate in the month of January, for the seventh consecutive month. The market share was still the highest at 39.7 percent, while the passenger load factor, i.e., the capacity utilisation stood at 89.7 percent for the month of January. Read More…
