Boeing, the American aerospace company, plans to send two Super Hornet fighter jets to Goa this summer. Those will be used for operational demonstrations in front of the Indian Navy.
According to a report by PTI, Alain Garcia, vice president of Boeing’s India Business Development, the plane was built exclusively for carrier operations from the start.
The aircraft, according to Boeing, will be able to operate from Indian Navy aircraft carriers and will meet or surpass STOBAR performance criteria. STOBAR stands for short take-off but arrested recovery and is a system for launching and recovering aircraft from an aircraft carrier’s deck.
Boeing also claims to be in discussions with Indian defence clients about the F/A-18 Super Hornet, P-8I, F-15EX, and KC-46 tanker for aerial refuelling and ISR.
According to Boeing, the Super Hornet will provide the Indian Navy with a multi-role, carrier-capable fighter while benefiting from the US Navy’s naval aviation ecosystem’s investments, improvements, and knowledge. More than 800 Super Hornets and EA-18 Growlers, the electronic attack version of the F/A-18, are in service with the US Navy.
