Chief of Army Staff, General Bipin Rawat Meets His Bhutanese Counterpart, General Batoo Tshering

Chief of Army Staff, General Bipin Rawat called upon and interacted with General Batoo Tshering, Chief of Royal Bhutan Army. The General expressed satisfaction with the relationship between Royal Bhutan Army and Indian Army based on mutual trust and respect.


The two also discussed areas of future cooperation, training for peace keeping mission and issues of mutual strategic concern.

General Bipin Rawat is on a goodwill visit to Bhutan and also met the Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyal Wangchuck on Friday. During the meeting, Gen Rawat assured the Bhutan King that the Indian Army would continue with its “special relationship” with the Royal Bhutanese Army in terms of training and support in capability building.

“The King acknowledged the historical and cultural relationship between the two nations, especially the special relationship shared between the Indian Army and the Royal Bhutan Army,” a statement from the Indian Army added.

India and Bhutan share a strong military relationship. The Indian Army Chief is on a four-day trip to the Himalayan region from April 27 to April 30.
