According to the Chinese military, India and China recently conducted a conference at the Corps Commander level and came to a “agreement” on four points.
Senior Colonel Wu Qian, a spokesman for China’s Ministry of National Defense, said on the 16th round of the China-India Corps Commander-Level Meeting that the two sides “reached four consensuses” and engaged in “constructive and forward-looking discussion.”
According to Sr Col Wu of the China Military Online, the official portal of the Chinese military, discussions in the conference focused on resolving the points of friction along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
He said both sides came to a “consensus” on four points while responding to an online briefing.
Speaking further about the agreement, the spokeswoman stated that the first step was to follow the political direction and seriously carry out the significant agreement struck by the presidents of the two nations.
The fourth agreement, he continued, was to keep the lines of communication open and continue the discussion in order to find a quick and amicable resolution.
India and China convened their 16th round of military negotiations on July 17, but there was no progress toward resolving the remaining grounds of contention in eastern Ladakh. However, all parties agreed to keep talking in order to find a solution as soon as possible that would be acceptable to both parties.
In a joint statement released on July 18, the two parties reiterated their belief that development in bilateral relations and the restoration of peace and serenity along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the region would be made possible by resolving the outstanding concerns.
The second was to keep the momentum of the restart of bilateral relations going while concentrating on the wider issue, he said.
He added that until the problem is resolved, the two sides’ third agreement was to effectively manage and regulate disagreements while preserving the security and stability in border regions.
