Defence Industry Takes Aim For Gujarat

After turning into an `auto hub’, Gujarat is now arming itself to make a mark on country’s defence manufacturing map. The state has become the most preferred destination for the industry if industrial licences granted for defence manufacturing units over the last two years is any indication to go by.

As per the data available with the department of industrial policy and promotion (DIPP) under union ministry of commerce and industry , Gujarat has been granted 18 out of total 99 industrial licenses for private companies to set up units for defence related items.This is the highest for any state for the period of 2015 and 2016. Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra have received 14, 12 and 11 licences, respectively , in last two years. Read More…
