A substantial agreement to purchase 70 HTT-40 trainer aircraft built in India was signed on Thursday by the Indian Air Force and state-owned aircraft manufacturer Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

The agreement was finalised the day after Gujarat’s Gandhinagar hosted the 12th edition of DefExpo, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40.

Three years after the agreement was signed, an official told Asianet News that HAL would begin delivering the trainer aircraft. The new trainer aircraft will be equipped with a Turbofan engine, which would be purchased from Honeywell Aerospace, a US-based company with more than 60% domestic content.

During the Bandhan ceremony held on Thursday, 451 agreements and product launches took place in Gandhinagar. There were 345 Memorandums of Understanding among them, along with 42 significant announcements, 46 product launches, and 18 Technology Transfers. A 1.5 lakh crore investment is planned.
