DRDO: India Successfully Test Fires MRSAM Air Defence System

India successfully test-fired Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) air defence systems twice on Wednesday, according to officials from the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), according to news agency ANI.

The MRSAM was developed by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) in collaboration for use by the Indian Army. They were tested in Balasore, off the coast of Odisha.

This comes only days after the DRDO performed identical tests on March 27, in which the missiles intercepted and fully destroyed aerial targets, registering direct strikes at both ranges. In December 2020, the first tests were conducted.

A multi-function radar, mobile launcher system, and other vehicles make up the MRSAM Army weapon system. The missile system was developed with the help of two DRDO labs in Pune.

The ground system and launcher for this system were designed by the Pune-based Research and Development Establishment (Engineers), while the propellant was donated by the High Energy Material Research Laboratory.
