A defence ministry official told the Times of India that the delivery of the second S-400 squadron from Russia has been delayed due to the conflict with Ukraine. According to the article, Russia has provided the air defence system with simulators and other training equipment.
Five S-400 squadrons would be delivered to the IAF every six months from Russia. In December, the first S-400 was delivered. On the Western front, the IAF has deployed the first S-400 squadron.
The delivery of S-400 missiles will strengthen India’s defences against both Pakistan and China. The device can take out targets from a distance of nearly 400 kilometres.
The $ 5.43 billion contract was signed in 2018, with delivery beginning in 2021.
