EU Announces Additional €500m Military Aid Package For Ukraine Under EPF

The European Union has promised to provide Ukraine an additional 500 million euros in military aid to bolster the defence of the country’s devastated by war. Charles Michel, the president of the EU Council, expressed his approval of the Council’s decision to give Ukraine more defence assistance on his official Twitter account.

Charles Michel reaffirmed Europe’s support for Ukraine and emphasised the need for Europe to act for peace and the defence of its principles in the tweet. When Michel tweeted, “Europe keeps advancing the cause of world peace and defending our ideals. I applaud the political agreement reached by the @EUCouncil on the fifth EPF tranche for #Ukraine.

The EU has provided the Ukrainian Armed Forces with military weapons worth 2,5 billion euros. Europe supports Ukraine in this.” Notably, since Russia began a military offensive in Kyiv, EU countries have provided Ukraine with defence and humanitarian aid.

In order to put pressure on the Kremlin to cease the conflict in Ukraine, EU countries have also imposed sanctions against Russia. Six sets of sanctions have already been imposed by the EU on Russia, the most recent of which was made public in June.

Kuleba calls on EU to impose sanctions against Russian energy

Dmytro Kuleba, the foreign minister of Ukraine, has thanked Ukraine for providing an additional 500 million euros in military help to the country’s war-torn people. In a tweet, Kuleba stated that Josep Borrell, the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, had invited him to address EU ministers at the Foreign Affairs Council.

He urged the EU to give Ukraine more direct assistance. Kuleba also urged the EU to impose restrictions on oil prices, prohibit Russian TV networks, and implement penalties against Russian energy. The Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine was also urged to receive cooperation from EU member states, he continued.
