Russia Says Shot Down Four US-made Missiles, For The First Time It’s Said This Since Ukraine War

- Weapons from the West have helped turn the tide against Moscow's offensive in Ukraine. Russia has had a series of setbacks, including giving up the city of Kherson in the south.
Moscow said on Monday that its air defences had shot down four US-made missiles over a part of southern Russia that borders Ukraine. This was one of the first times Moscow had said something like this in the nearly 10 months of fighting.
“Four American ‘HARM’ anti-radar missiles were shot down in the airspace over the Belgorod region,” Russia’s defence ministry said in a statement on social media. The region says it is often hit by Ukrainian strikes.
“HARM” missiles have a range of more than 48 kilometres and are made to hit air defence systems with radars (30 miles).
The missiles were first used in 1984. Now, they can be fired from warplanes from the Soviet era in Kiev.

When asked by AFP about the missiles being shot down, the Pentagon said it “could not confirm those reports.”
