General Manoj Pande, the head of the Indian Army, arrived in Bangladesh on Sunday to begin a three-day tour aimed at enhancing bilateral defence ties between the two countries, according to the Indian Army.
The Liberation War of Bangladesh’s Golden Jubilee and the 50th anniversary of India and Bangladesh’s diplomatic relations both took place in 2021.
In a variety of areas, including trade and connectivity, energy and electricity, water resources, border control, defence and security, culture, and people-to-people connections, India and Bangladesh have strong and extensive bilateral cooperation.
On December 6, 2021, India and Bangladesh both observed Maitri Diwas as a part of Swarnim Vijay Varsh. Belgium, Canada, Egypt, Indonesia, Russia, Qatar, Singapore, United Kingdom, Australia, France, Japan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Switzerland, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States of America also observed Maitri Diwas.
The relationship between India and Bangladesh is crucial to India’s “Neighborhood First” policy. The year 2021 was particularly significant because it marked the centennials of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth, 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations, and 50 years of Bangladesh’s independence.
In honour of the day that India granted diplomatic recognition to Bangladesh in 1971, India and Bangladesh observed December 6, 2021, as “Maitri Diwas” (Friendship Day) in New Delhi, Dhaka, and 18 other major cities around the globe.
The two nations’ collaboration is also evident in their fight against the Covid epidemic. Bangladesh received 3.3 million Covishield vaccines from India as part of its continuing pandemic response. This was the largest shipment of Made in India Covid-19 vaccinations that India has ever sent to a nation.
