The relationship between India and Bangladesh is crucial to India’s “Neighborhood First” policy. In honour of the day that India granted diplomatic recognition to Bangladesh in 1971, India and Bangladesh observed December 6, 2021, as “Maitri Diwas” (Friendship Day) in New Delhi, Dhaka, and 18 other major cities around the globe.
The two nations’ collaboration is also evident in their fight against the Covid epidemic. Bangladesh received 3.3 million Covishield vaccines from India as part of its continuing pandemic response. This was the largest shipment of Made in India Covid-19 vaccinations that India has ever sent to a nation.
