HAL & Bharat Electronics Signed A Deal To Produce Indigenous Search And Track System For Su-30 Mki Aircraft

HAL announced on Tuesday that it has inked a contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) to co-develop and co-produce the Long Range Dual Band Infrared Search and Track System (IRST) for Sukhoi Su-30 MKI fighter jets. As part of the ‘Make in India’ strategy, the contract was signed under the MAKE-II procedure of the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020.

“The proposed IRST system will be a high-end strategic technology product in the field of defence avionics and will be technically competitive to existing IRST systems in the global market with features such as Television Day Camera, Infrared & LASER sensors in a single window for air-to-air and air-to-ground target tracking and localization,” HAL said in a statement.

According to the report, the system will improve the Indian Air Force’s air superiority.

According to the statement, the joining of two defence PSUs for the development of technologically vital IRST gives a boost to ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in the defence industry.

In a worldwide competitive context, this effort also creates a future path in the sphere of indigenous defence manufacture for the development of high-end strategic technological items of IRST for diverse platforms, according to HAL.
