IAF has lost 33 aircraft, including 19 fighter jets in crashes since 2015, says Defence Ministry


The Indian Air Force has lost a total of 33 aircraft, including 19 fighter jets, in accidents since 2015-16, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Wednesday.

Responding to a question in the Lok Sabha, the Defence Minister said that Russian-make AN-32 aircraft is the workhorse of the IAF transport fleet and that there is no plan to phase it out as they have useful residual life.

On June 3, an IAF’s An-32 aircraft crashed in Arunachal Pradesh claiming lives of 13 Air Force personnel.

Singh said that during 2015-16, IAF’s four fighter jets, one helicopter, transporter and trainer aircraft each met with accidents. Read More
