IAF conducts ‘Fire Power Demonstration’ exercise named Ex Vayu Shakti, once every three years to showcase its operational capability.
Various types of aircraft that are participating in the exercise are MiG-21 Bison, MiG-27 UPG, MiG-29, Jaguar, LCA (Tejas), Mirage-2000, Su-30 MKI, Hawk, C-130J Super Hercules, An-32, Mi-17 V5, Mi-35 attack helicopters, indigenously developed AEW&C and Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH MK-IV). In addition, IAF’s Garud force will demonstrate their combat capability in undertaking special operations and destroying a target, situated inside enemy territory.
The exercise is a demonstration of operational prowess, combat effectiveness and fire power capability of the Indian Air Force.
This is a demonstration of how IAF will neutralize a target, after it has been indentified and located.
The theme for Exercise Vayu Shakti 2019 is “IAF: Securing the Nation in Peace and War”. Exercise Vayu Shakti-2019 is planned on 16 Feb 19 at Pokhran Air to Ground Range.
The exercise will showcase the capability of Indian Air Force to operate in a networked environment, round the clock.
Lethality and precision of air and surface based weapon systems and Special Forces will be highlighted in the demonstration.
During the display, frontline fighter aircraft, transport aircraft, helicopters and surface-to-air missile systems will display their operational capability.
For the first time, Mig 29 UPG will be utilised in Air to Ground role,Su 30 MKI will showcase the drop of indigenously developed High Speed Low Drag (HSLD) bombs. Indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) will showcase swing roll capability by first engaging aerial targets and then turning around and decimating ground targets in the same sortie.
Indigenously designed ALH Mk IV will carry out air to ground firing using 20 mm turret gun. Akash missiles will fire on Maneuverable Expendable Aerial Target (MEAT).
The exercise will be conducted in three phases viz day, dusk and night.
This would amply demonstrate the capability of IAF to operate with the highest levels of competence and precision, in all environmental conditions.
