Officials said here on Saturday that this is the first time the Indian Navy will use 30 mm high explosive gun ammunition made by a private company.

The ammunition was made by Solar Group’s Economic Explosives Ltd. in Nagpur. It was made, tested, and sent out within a year, using propellant from the Bhandara Ordnance Factory.

Vice-Admiral S. N. Ghormade, Vice-Chief of Naval Staff, received the first shipment of ammunition from Solar Group Chairman and Managing Director Satyanarayan N. Nuwal.

“It’s the first time that the military has asked an Indian private company to deliver a full set of gun bullets, and the job was done in a year. A defence official said, “The Indian Navy helped with technical support by finalising the drawings, design specifications, inspection tools, and testing and proving the ammunition.”

With this, the Atmanirbhar Bharat policy of making things in India, the Indian Navy has been able to create a second way to get 30 mm high explosive gun ammunition.

Solar Group has been around since 1995. It is one of the biggest companies in the Industrial Explosives market, and it has also moved into the defence market.
