India Successfully Tests Anti-Tank Guided Missiles With Laser Guidance

India-made missiles have been tested: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Army on the weapon’s successful trial.

On Thursday, India successfully tested laser-guided anti-tank guided missiles (ATGMs) developed in-house at a military installation in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar. According to the defence ministry, the missiles destroyed the targets with pinpoint accuracy at two different ranges.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and the Indian Army on the weapon’s successful trial.

“The DRDO and Indian Army successfully test-fired indigenously developed laser-guided anti-tank guided missiles from Main Battle Tank (MBT) Arjun,” the ministry said.

The missiles were tested at the KK Ranges in Ahmednagar, with assistance from the Armoured Corps Centre and School.

“The missiles hit their targets with pinpoint accuracy and successfully destroyed them at two different ranges. The missiles’ flight performance has been recorded as satisfactory by telemetry systems “According to the defence ministry.

“The all-indigenous laser guided ATGM employs a tandem High explosive anti-tank (HEAT) warhead to defeat explosive reactive armour (ERA) protected armoured vehicles,” according to the press release.

The ATGM was designed with multi-platform launch capability and is currently undergoing technical evaluation trials from the MBT Arjun’s 120 mm rifled gun. DRDO Chairman G Satheesh Reddy also congratulated the teams involved in the ATGM test firing.
