Indian Army To Procure Air Defence Systems, Spike-LR Anti-Tank Missiles Via Newly Granted Financial Power


In a rare instance, the Defence Ministry has empowered the three armed forces with emergency financial powers under which they can freely procure equipment worth up to Rs 300 crore on a priority basis, reports The Hindu.

This decision, which was taken earlier in the month comes in the aftermath of the Pulwama suicide bombing attack and heightened tensions between India and Pakistan resulting in Balakot airstrikes and unending ceasefire violations from across the border.

Under the newly granted powers, the Indian Army will now procure Spike-LR Anti-Tank Missiles from Israel and Igla-S Very Short Range Air Defence Systems (VSHORAD) from Russia. Read More
