Instrument Landing Systems Upgrade Delays Mumbai Flights

Significant flight delays continued on Friday for the second successive day at Mumbai’s airport as an upgradation in the instrument landing systems (ILS), led to air traffic congestion.

The new ILS is to aid more efficient night landing at the airport. According to a senior airline executive, the ATC controllers at the airport made sure that more separation time was given between arrivals, that led to cascading delays on flight operations.

This led hour long delays on average after doors of the aircraft had closed. Yesterday too, aircraft were stationed on the ground for 90 minutes to 2 hours after door-closure, leading to discomfort for passengers and cascading delays, said a top airline executive.  Read More…
