Jammu And Kashmir: Special Police Officer Shot Dead By Militants In Pulwama, Hunt To Nab Assailants On


A Special Police Officer was shot dead on Wednesday by militants in Tral area of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir, according to media reports.

Haleem Gujjar, 38, was fired upon by militants at his residence in Gutroo village of Tral around 5:45 pm in Aripal tehsil, 36 kilometers from Srinagar, according to a police official. Gujjar died on the spot, the police official added.

However, India Today reported that Gujjar suffered critical injuries and was shifted to nearby hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Government forces launched a hunt to nab the assailants, according to the India Today report.

This is the second incident in less than six months where a police officer has been shot dead by militants.

On 15 June, policeman Shabir Ahmad Dar succumbed to his injuries after he was shot by suspected militants in Kulgam in south Kashmir.

He received multiple bullet injuries when the militants opened fire outside his residence in Bogund, a police official said.
