Lt Gen AP Singh, PhD Takes Over As Director General, Army Air Defence


Lt Gen AP Singh, PhD has taken over the reins of Army Air Defence as its Director General on 11 May 2018. The General Officer is an alumnus of National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy having been commissioned in June 1981.

The General Officer has attained all the qualifications as required of a Scholar Warrior including Defence Services Staff College, Senior Command Course, the prestigious Higher Command Course, National Defence College and Tunguska Air Defence Course in Yeisk (Russia).

He has vast and varied experience in command and staff assignments across all spectrum and terrain profiles. He commanded an Air Defence Regiment during Operation Parakram in 2001 in Desert Sector and an Air Defence Brigade in Kashmir Valley in 2009.

The General Officer has served in various distinguished staff appointments as Colonel General Staff (Operations) in an active Army Corps in Kashmir Valley, Operational Logistics in a Mountain Division on Line of Control and Strike.

Corps in Plains Sector and also in Military Secretary Branch at Army Headquarters. He has also served in Joint services environment in Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff (Operations and Logistics) where he additionally handled Disaster Management in the Ministry of Defence and was the interface with National Disaster Management Authority, Ministry of Home and Foreign Affairs.

The General Officer has been part of military delegations to Brunei (ASEAN Disaster Management), Singapore and Belarus to enhance the Inter Governmental Military Cooperation.

Prior to taking over as Director General of Army Air Defence, he has been the Commandant at Army AD College. The General officer in his 37 years of service has been awarded Chief of Army Staff Commendation on two occasions and also the Army Commander Commendation.

The General officer is also the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Army Air Defence since 01 January 2017.
