Maoist Surrenders, Gets Rs 25 Lakh Reward On His Head


A senior Maoist, who was wanted in 77 criminal cases and who had a bounty of Rs 25 lakh on his head, surrendered before the police at Daltonganj in Jharkhand on Thursday. A cheque of the like amount was immediately handed over to Kamlesh Kumar Ganjhu aka Birsai upon his surrender. He was active in Jharkhand, Bihar and Chhattisgarh.

In Chhattisgarh another top-ranking Maoist leader, Vetti Rama, surrendered before police in Bastar the same day. While Birsai came to surrender without any weapon, Rama handed over an Insas Rifle to the cops. Rama was allegedly involved in blowing up a mine-protected vehicle in Kistaram in March this year in which nine CRPF personnel were killed.

Birsai, a member of the Maoists’ special area committee (SAC), gave himself up before Palamu DIG (police) Vipul Shukla, DIG (CRPF) J Pal and commissioner MK Jha. Read more
