Minister of State for External Affairs MJ Akbar was on an official visits to Ghana and Equatorial Guinea from 14-18 August..
On the first leg of visit, Mr Akbar launched the Freedom@70 celebrations and to inaugurate FICCI’s ‘Namaskar Africa’ trade show in Ghana.
It was the first bilateral Ministerial visit from India after the new government assumed office in January this year.
“During the visit, the Minister called on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and held talks with Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration Shirley Botchway.
He reiterated to President Akufo-Addo, the standing invitation to visit India and urged Ghana to join the International Solar Alliance (ISA) as a founding member.
MOS also handed over a symbolic cheque of US$1 million as grant assistance towards rehabilitation of the Presidential residence of Flagstaff House built earlier with a GOI concessional Line of Credit.
President Akufo-Addo lauded the contribution of the Indian community in the economic development of his country, stated that he looked forward for enhanced economic cooperation between the two countries.
During Mr Akbar’s interaction with the Foreign Minister, the entire spectrum of bilateral relationship was discussed.
MrAkbar made a visit to Equatorial Guinea on 18 August, which was the first bilateral visit from India at Ministerial level.
