Mumbai Police gets Made in India ‘Robocop’; can defuse bombs using X-rays, night visionThe Mumbai Police has finally got its much awaited hi-tech robot known as Mini Remotely Operated Vehicle (MROV), Rover Mark.

This robot will be used for bomb disposal, aiming to minimize the human loss in case of explosions. Also, it is a significant part of the ‘police modernisation plan’ after the 26/11 terror attack.

According to sources, the machine is an addition to the force, costing approximately Rs 84 lakhs. The robot is built by SDS (Security Defence System) in India and three of such robots, which weigh around 100 Kg are now in use after extensive tests conducted in past few months.

These robots were added into the force this year in April, it can be used by Mumbai Police Bomb Detection Disposal Squad (BDDS). They were also tested positive during the rainy season and holds the capacity of climbing on mountain, stairs, airplane ladder in 45 degrees. Read More
