Rajnath approves task force report to improve border management via space technology

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday approved the report of the task force created by his ministry to identify areas for use of space technology in improving border management (BM).

The task force, headed by the joint secretary of BM Sripriya Ranganathan, included members from BSF, Department of Space and BM Division. Before finalising the report, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) consulted all stakeholders including Border Guarding Forces (BGFs), ISRO, National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS) and Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Following areas have been identified for use of space technology are island development, border security, communication and navigation, geographic information system and operations planning system and border infrastructure development.

To execute the project in a time bound manner, a short, medium and long term plan has been proposed for implementation in five years in close coordination with the ISRO and MoD. Read More
