The Ministry of Defence said on Wednesday that on October 14, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will launch a website where people can donate to the Armed Forces Battle Casualties Welfare Fund (AFBCWF).
The Defense Ministry said in a statement that the portal, called “Maa Bharati Ke Sapoot” (MBKS), will be launched at an event at the National War Memorial complex here.
The AFBCWF is a three-service fund that helps the families and dependents of people who died in battle right away by giving them money for free.
“While the government of India has started a lot of welfare programmes for soldiers who were killed or injured in the line of duty during active military operations, there has been a strong public sentiment and requests from patriotic citizens, corporate heads, and industry captains to help the soldiers and their families,” the statement said.
The ministry said that the website is being made so that patriotic Indians can help with this good cause.
It said that actor Amitabh Bachchan has kindly agreed to be the “Goodwill Ambassador.”
The chief of defence staff, all three service chiefs, many Param Vir Chakra awardees and other high-ranking officials of the ministry, various corporate heads, chairman and managing directors of banks, prominent serving personnel from the sports field, and other celebrities are expected to attend the event, according to a statement.
“On that day, ten people who were close to heroes who died or were hurt in active military operations will be honoured. Parents and family members of many soldiers who won medals in war have also been invited “it said.
