On a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited the forward areas on Thursday. The defence ministry said Singh assessed the security situation in the Union Territory and “undertook a first-hand assessment of the situation in the formations responsible for the Line of Control (LoC) and forward regions in North Kashmir.”

Pakistan, India’s western neighbour, “has always resorted to anti-India actions,” according to Singh, who added that Jammu and Kashmir has “also witnessed terror activities in the past.”

“There has been a considerable drop in the number of terror actions in the state recently,” he said, citing the “constant efforts of the personnel” of the armed and security forces. Despite the fact that “Pakistan continues to attempt to disrupt peace in the country by bleeding India with a thousand cuts,” he said, India’s “security forces are such a protective shield for this country that whomever tries to shatter it suffers himself.”

“India has never attempted to harm any country in any way, nor have we attempted to take even an inch of land from anyone,” the defence minister stated. According to the ministry’s statement, he said, “If an attempt is ever made to harm the nation’s unity and integrity, the armed forces would provide a befitting reply.”

According to the ministry, he was briefed on the LoC ceasefire accord, field fortification development, the counter infiltration grid, operational readiness, and Army-citizen ties in border areas.

He was also briefed on the “overall security situation” on the LoC and in the hinterland, as well as the Amarnath Yatra’s safety and security procedures.

He interacted with armed troops, Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, and police employees. According to the statement, he “commended them for carrying out their obligations properly even in difficult situations, calling their courage and devotion as extraordinary” in an address to them.

According to the statement, he also praised the “excellent synergy exhibited by all sections of the civil administration,” the security forces, and security agencies in projecting a “whole-of-government approach that has resulted in the improvement of the security situation conducive to fostering a new era of development in the Union Territory.”

Army Chief General Manoj Pande, Northern Army Commander Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi, and Lieutenant General AS Aujla, commander of the 15 Corps, which is in charge of securing the LoC in the Valley, accompanied Singh.
