Russia ‘likely Suffered Losses,’ According To UK Intelligence In Wartime, Among Mid-and Junior-ranking Officers

The UK Defence Ministry provided its latest intelligence update on Monday, May 30th, as the war between Russia and Ukraine entered its 96th day. Russia has “likely” incurred losses among its junior and mid-ranking officers in the fight, according to British intelligence.

The loss of a huge number of skilled officers, according to the UK government, will “certainly worsen” their difficulties in modernising their approach to gaining control of Ukrainian land.

“Russia has likely suffered devastating losses amongst its mid and junior ranking officers in the conflict,” the UK Defence Ministry said in the latest intelligence update.

Due to a shortage of highly qualified and empowered non-commissioned officers (NCOs), junior officers were forced to command the lowest level tactical tasks, according to the UK Defence Ministry. “Brigade and battalion leaders are likely to deploy forward into danger because they are held to an exacting level of responsibility for their units’ performance,” the report continued. Because they lack junior leaders, the battalion tactical groups (BTGs) deployed in Ukraine are projected to be “less effective.”

According to the British Defence Ministry, verifiable reports of mutinies have revealed that a shortage of experienced platoon and company leaders has resulted in a drop in Russian personnel’ morale. Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the United Kingdom and its allies have provided humanitarian and defence assistance to Ukraine. In a telephonic chat with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on May 28, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson addressed enhancing defence support and working on restoring Ukrainian ports.

“With multiple credible reports of localised mutinies amongst Russia’s forces in Ukraine, a lack of experienced and credible platoon and company commanders is likely to result to a further decrease in morale and continued poor discipline,” the UK Defence Ministry said in the latest intelligence update.

Russia lost nearly 30,350 soldiers since military offensive began: Ukraine
